After Downing Street and Impeachable Offenses

After Downing Street and Impeachable Offenses
By: Jack Dalton

Bill Clinton was vilified and pretty much decimated by the Republican congress a few years ago for lying about having sex with a woman not his wife. The same people who controlled congress then, control it even more now. Bush/Cheney lied and deceived this nation into invading Iraq; the very same people who vilified Clinton are now the leading defenders and apologists for Bush/Cheney. And that’s even after the Downing Street Memo supported by additional reports last month which prove the lies of Bush and Cheney—they just write everyone off as “anti-American.”

I’m the commander--see, I don’t have to explain—I don’t need to explain why I say things. That’s the interesting thing about being the President. Maybe somebody needs to explain to me why they say something, but I don’t feel like I owe anybody an explanation.” (George W. Bush—Washington Post, 11-19-2002) This must still hold true as Bush refuses to respond to questions concerning the revelations in the Downing Street Memo.

Tom Delay 4 months prior to the past so-called election stated: “…a stronger republican majority in the House; 5 more seats in the senate; George W. Bush back in the White House, you ain’t seen nothing yet.” And then on November 3rd, the day after the “election” he stated, “…we’ve gained 4 more seats in the senate… we a stronger majority in the House… with Pres. Bush back in the White House… we will be about the business of securing permanent republican control…will create a Bible based government.”

Less than three weeks after the release of the Downing Street Memo, the GOP announced it wants to fast track the “Sunset Commission” so that it can, “…restructure the entire federal government.” (The Sunset Commission was created by a one paragraph “Amendment” that was slipped into the recent $82 billion Iraq supplemental passed last month 100-0 by the Senate.)

Simply put, congress is out to vest even more unrestricted power upon the White House. In 27 AD, the Roman Senate essentially cast their very last meaningful vote when they voted to vest more unrestricted power and authority upon the Emperor of Rome. We all pretty much know what the end result of that was—economic, social and political collapse behind a complete dictatorship that eventually destroyed itself over time.

The American Heritage Dictionary defines Totalitarianism as: “... imposing a form of government in which the political authority exercises absolute and centralized control over all aspects of life, the individual is subordinated to the state, and opposing political and cultural expression is suppressed [emphasis added].”

GOP Silences Dems at Patriot Act Hearing is just one of an ever increasing number of examples of the BushCo cabals attempt at creating permanent one party rule--which includes more control over every aspect of our lives. They are doing exactly what the Nazi’s did in the 30’s-- in terms of using the constitution to change that constitution to read more in accordance with their “world view, and to give the air of legitimacy to what they do.

The German’s had the “Enabling Act,” and we have the “Patriot Act- Both having the effect of controlling its own citizens especially after national ID’s are put into place—“Papers Please.” The Real ID Act was passed as an amendment to the $82 billion Iraq supplemental along with the creation of the Sunset Commission—100-0 it passed!

It is the same view as had all who have thought of themselves as the “elite, the chosen, the privileged;” it is the view of all tyrants, theocrats and corporatists—they want total domination, pure and simple; externally around the world, and internally here in this country. It is the view that all are here to serve those who, as John Jay said in 1777: “the people who own the country ought to rule the country.” If you remember, John Jay was this country’s first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court-- It’s been an up-hill struggle for us “common folk” ever since.

The following quote by Orwell pretty much sums up with what we are faced with: "The essence of oligarchical rule is not father-to-son inheritance, but the persistence of a certain world-view and a certain way of life ... A ruling group is a ruling group so long as it can nominate its successors... Who wields power is not important, provided that the hierarchical structure remains always the same.”

Enough from me…at least for now; here is the latest up-date from AfterDowningStreet.org. Whatever you do, don’t just skip over this or just read it and set it aside. Join in the demand for answer’s, and join me in demanding impeachment proceeding be started immediately against George W. Bush and Dick Cheney!
AfterDowningStreet.org is a rapidly growing coalition of veterans' groups, peace groups, and political activist groups, which launched on May 26, 2005, a campaign to urge the U.S. Congress to begin a formal investigation into whether President Bush has committed impeachable offenses in connection with the Iraq war.

We are a country at war. Is it too much to ask our president to do one very necessary thing in a time of war? TALK TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE...

Some of us have so many questions. More Iraqi soldiers just blown away today. Nearly every day someone dies. I don't want to hear about social security. Not right now...

Since when is a war something we don't talk about?

I did hear Mr. Bush say something about Downing Street as he stood at Mr. Blair's side not long ago. He said the Downing Street Memo was nothing new and nothing important. Fine.

But if it isn't important, why can't we talk about it instead of this hurried response? And then the silence?
