Mandatory V.A. Funding Amendment to be Offered
Please take the below action and support the call for mandatory V.A. funding. Also, I will be down for a few days--a lot going on this week that needs my attention which will make it almost impossible to keep the blog updated. I'll be back in a few days. (additional comments below)--Jack
Mandatory Funding Amendment to be Offered
July 25, 2005
On Wednesday, July 27, 2005, Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Tim Johnson (D-SD) will offer an amendment to the DoD Authorization Bill (S. 1042) to provide mandatory funding for veterans health care. With the recent news of a veterans health care budget shortfall, we may have a window of opportunity to enact mandatory veterans health care funding.
The Stabenow-Johnson amendment ensures that veterans who need health care will have access to it by guaranteeing a reliable stream of funding for veterans health care. The amendment provides guaranteed funding for America’s veterans from two sources. First, the legislation provides a recommended annual discretionary amount at the fiscal year 2005 funding level. Second, an annual mandatory funding level would be adjusted year-to-year based on changes in demand from veterans and the rate of health care inflation.
The approval of at least 60 Senators will be needed to keep the amendment included in the DoD bill. Therefore, it is absolutely critical the Senate hear from DAV members on this important issue. Please call and e-mail your Senators today and request their support for the Stabenow-Johnson amendment to the DoD Authorization bill (S. 1042) to ensure guaranteed funding for veterans health care.
Please send the prepared e-mail to your Senators today!
"Never Again Will One Generation of Veterans Abandon Another" (Vietnam Veterans of America) "If they ask you why we died, tell them 'cause our fathers' lied" (Rudyard Kipling)
We that went to Vietnam were abandoned by veterans of previous wars when we came back--we will not do to what was done to us; we will not turn our backs on our fellow veterans coming back from this obscenity that was created in Iraq by Bush/Cheney & Co. You will see first hand the "stacked deck" veterans are up against.--in solidarity and peace, Jack
