UFPJ Update on Sept. March on Washington

That we all need to fully support this call for the mass rally and march on Washington goes without saying--but, I'll say it anyway! We have got to not only support this, but we must also create a huge public showing. In other words, make whatever plans are needed and be in Washington Sept. 24-26. Never have in my 61 years have I seen more of a need to march on Washington as what exists now with Bush/Cheney & Co., Inc. leading us and the world to the brink of utter destruction--socially, economically, politically.

The Bush/Cheney cabal views people as nothing more than a number on a balance sheet in their push to super-impose their neo-con/neo-liberal ideology on the rest of the world. While Bush continues to articulate "stay the course; complete the mission" and how we must "support the troops" (which today only means support Bush/Cheney and has nothing to do with the troops) none of them has as yet attended so much as one funeral for those that have been killed due to the madness Bush/Cheney has unleashed. They do not care how many die. Bush/Cheney & Co., Inc care about one thing and one thing only, subjugating us and the rest of the world under their dictatoral rule. See you in Sept.--Jack

We hope you will order tons of these stickers, and put them up widely (please post only where it is legal).

They are a great and easy way to get the word out and everyone can find creative ways to use them. Be sure to get enough for yourself and your friends. Visit the merchandise section of our website today to order stickers. Buttons for the September 24 march are also available.

2. Sept. 24: Assemble 11 AM at the Washington Monument
The assembly time and place for the massive Saturday, September 24 march has now been set: 11 AM at the Washington Monument. We've got a new September 24 leaflet available on our website that features this information. Visit the
fall mobilization section of our website to download it. Many more outreach materials, in multiple languages, will be added in the coming weeks - check back often!

3. Contingents for the Sept. 24 March
As we march through the streets of Washington on September 24 we want to show the breadth and depth of opposition to the war in Iraq. One way to do that is through organized contingents that bring together groups and individuals that want to march together under a specific identification: labor, counter-recruitment, veterans, women, religious and faith based, students, military families, lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender, states or regions of the country, etc. In the coming weeks we will be listing the various contingents that are being organized and information on how to contact the point people for those contingents. In the meantime, please write to us at contingents at to let us know if you want to form a contingent.

4. Sign Up for the Sept. 26 Grassroots Lobby Day
One of the major activities of our three-day mobilization will be the Grassroots Lobby Day on Monday, September 26. Congress has been complicit in this illegal and immoral war from day one, but some significant momentum has finally developed there in favor of withdrawal. We need to send a powerful message to Congress: They must take action to stop this war! On September 26, people from all around the country will meet with legislators and their staffs to urge them to stand up against the war.

It is not too early to start making your plans to be part of this effort. The UFPJ Legislative Working Group is putting together a training session that will be held on Sunday, September 25, as well as materials people will need to make their visits on Capitol Hill as successful as possible. For more information about the Grassroots Lobby Day, and to sign up to be part of it, click here.

5. Nonviolent Civil Disobedience at the White House on Sept. 26
A mass nonviolent civil disobedience action organized by United for Peace and Justice will occur at the White House at the same time as the Grassroots Lobby Day on Monday, September 26. This nonviolent action will dramatically articulate the depth of opposition to the war in Iraq, as people from all walks of life and from varied social change traditions will risk arrest to strongly voice opposition to the war. The UFPJ Nonviolent Direct Action Working Group is planning the details of the day, as well as a training session on Sunday, September 25. Please be sure to check the fall mobilization section of our website in the coming days for more details and to find out how you can get involved.

6. Your Group Endorsement
We encourage you to ask your group or organization to endorse the September mobilization. We hope you will take the request for endorsements not only to your own groups, but also to community organizations, religious institutions, union locals, professional organizations, student groups and every other type of group you can think of. Ask them to get involved, to lend their support, to help get the word out and - most importantly - to bring people to Washington, D.C.!

Making an endorsement is easy, just click here. There is also a separate place on our web site for religious leaders and institutions to make their endorsement; click here to access that.

7. Spread the Word and Donate Now!
We have great plans for the three days of action and tremendous enthusiasm about this effort. But there is a great deal more to do. We need YOUR help reaching out to the vast numbers of people in every corner of this country who oppose this war. They need to know about the September mobilization, and they need to be encouraged to make the trip to Washington to add their voice and be counted.

We need your financial support to make it all happen. Please take a moment right now to help out! For a donation of $25 or more, we'll send you five of our fall mobilization buttons - one for you, and four to share with friends. Click here to make a much-needed contribution TODAY, or call 212-868-5545 to donate by phone.
